The Prime Mover watched in astonishment as the evil weapon - formally known
as the Enigine of Salvation - blew up in a flash of blue light. Debris were
flying every which way. Pilot screeched in dismay as a chunk of metal
almost hit him.
: : "Mom," Pilot swam full speed toward his mother. "Ecco!"
The Prime Mover groaned, and little bubbles cameout of her blowhole. Ecco
was gone. He could not have survived anything like that. Pilot nearly got
killed by the explosion, and he was hundreds of feet away! Ecco, who had
reunited the three chastes, who wore the harness, who bravely destroyed the
Engine of Death - at the cost of his own life.
 : :
"And good riddance to it!" the last Crimson swam in glee. The member of
the Circle just watched. He sent out some sonar blasts - probably trying to
find a certain dolphin.
 : :
"Dolphin, do you know what just happened?" the Prime Mover swam up to him.
"Ecco was in there - you’re happy he was turned into a scorched starfish?"
"So what if he was," the Crimson put his nose very close to hers. "Ecco
could have lived through anything. He was - is - the Chosen One."
"That desn’t mean-"
 : :
"I don’t know, Mom," Pilot was behind her. "I think Ecco could have lived,
but then again, I also doubt it."
 : :
The Cricle gave one strong wag of his tail and floated slowly beside them,
stopping deftly. "I couldn’t find any sign of him. He was either
incinerated completely, or he just... left."
 : :
"He also just came out of nowhere," said Pilot. "He couldn’t have swam in
through the mines, and that’s the only way to here ‘side from land."
"He has a good point," said the Crimson. "In fact, I think he just fell
from the sky. I watched him from my shrine."
 : :
"Speaking of shrines," said the Circle. "We need to repair all of ours. I
never thought it would be possible, but since that thing exploded.... I
can’t describe the kind of ambition I’m feeling. And I also feel a need to
help others. And I have all these ideas. And... I’m sorry we Circle acted
so harshly to others."
 : :
"And me, the last Crimson, as well,"
 : :
"And the Movers, especially," The Prime Mover thought about all the
feelings she had since Ecco left and while he was here. He brought
intelligence, wisdom, ambition, compassion, and the humility that was making
all of them apologize to each other for being such manatees. They had all
felt these feelings before - without compassion, Pilot wouldn't have even
survived. But these emotions were never felt on such a high level.
 : :
"We can build a city!" the Crimson said. "The dyes we put on oursleves
segregate should be taken no heed. Let us be free."
 : :
"In a few generations, the population will be high again," the Circle said.
"Let us clean the oceans for our predecessors at once."
 : :
The Prime Mover hoped that Ecco, who had caused all this wonder, was still
alive.

Ten years passed.
 : :
The Prime Mover watched all of the dolphins playing in the now clean
waters. They hadn't been dyed, as there was no need. Pilot had met a
former Cricle and mated, blessing the Prime Mover with grandchildren. The
fish began to taste good again as clean water circulated in their gills.
 : :
The Prime Mover remembered smugly that the clean ocean was mainly her
doing. She found an old human filter and used her safety harness to turn it
on. In time, the waters began to look natural again.
 : :
The other dolphins had all been told of Ecco. They all pretended to be
him, battling with sharks. Pilot didn't need to pretend. He was full grown
and battled sharks for a living. But the other dolphins had to wait.
 : :
They're going to start an Ecco fan club, the Prime Mover thought of a human
expression. She wondered why she used it. She knew nothing of human
weapons or cooling devices.

This fic was very short, wasn't it? It was designed to be. it was just a
way for me to express what I think happened after Ecco left man's Nightmare
in Defender of the Future. This is just an opinion. i do not own Ecco,
Appaloosa does. This was writeen for no profit.
