Ecco the Dolphin: DoF Beta is the name given by fans to the version of the game that was shown as a preview to the press before the final game was released. There are several differences that can be seen between the final version and the beta version in the screenshots taken of the beta version, I'll detail some of those below.

The first main obvious difference is the title screen and logo used in the beta version, they are nothing like the final version ones.

The characters look very similar but parts of levels look very different as the level layout has not been finished yet.

This whale isn't here in the final game, infact there are no whales in Atlantis Lost in the final version of the game.

The life/air bars here are split into two seperated bars unlike the final version where they are always a single line each. I would guess that this was orginally what happened when you got a powerup rather than the bars just getting longer like in the final game. Also to the right a number was displayed, it changed depending on what direction you were facing, I think it showed your direction by getting higher or lower like a compass. e.g 0 was North, 90 East, 180 South and 270 West.

In some of the earliest screenshots the life and air bars were actually a series of bars just like in the first ecco games.
