When is an ecco game not an ecco game? When it's this game, thats when. Ecco Jr isn't designed for the same age group as the rest of the ecco series, it's designed for younger children and therefore there are a lot of changes, you can't die and there are no enemies that hurt you, the sea is just a place to explore at your leasure and to solve simple puzzles on your way.
The graphics have been given a 'cuteish' look with all the characters having rounded bodies, you actually have a choice of playing as one of two dolphins or an orca in the game, this adds a little more depth into the game but they all play exactlly the same so it's not such a great feature. The music has some good tunes as usual but that graphics are not quite as good as the other ecco games. As with all ecco games what it really comes down to is the gameplay, well it's not your standard ecco fare. That isn't to say it's bad, it's just different, the game is more about exploring and watching the beautiful sealife than really trying to do anything. There are puzzles to solve but with ecco's sonar in this game automatically reflecting off the next place you need to go it's not much of a mental workout to solve anything. This game isn't totally without merit for the older fan though, even if you will complete it in under an hour it's still fun to swim about without worrying about running out of air and this is a game you can sit down to if you just have a few minutes unlike other ecco games where even one level takes ages. Overall, this game is best suited to a quick play now and again but doesn't have anything to keep you interested for long unless you just like exploring. A younger child will love this game totally though. |

| I just rented ecco jr. and I thought. Does it take place befor ecco the dolphin or is it in a siries of its own? the graphics arn't to good but the charecter selection was awsome. It was easy but that's just because it's a practice game to prepere you for ecco the dolphin. while it is a child game, it is still an ecco game for all ages. | |
